Susanne Elmark

​The Danish native, in Copenhagen educated coloratura soprano Susanne Elmark has become in great demand in the European opera and concert houses.

With the roles of Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos), Queen of the Night (Magic Flute), Konstanze (The Abduction) und Lulu (Lulu) Susanne Elmark has been engaged the last two seasons in houses like Deutsche Oper Berlin, Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, Teatro Real Madrid, Opera Oslo, Frankfurt, Cologne and Royal Opera Copenhagen and Covent Garden London.

Besides the classical opera and concert repertoire Susanne Elmark often performs in contemporary music; several pieces are dedicated to her, und she has participated in numerous first performances. In 2010 und ´11 Susanne Elmark has sung at big festivals in Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Germany, France and Spain, including cooperations with the famous ensembles German Ensemble Modern in Alte Oper Frankfurt und French Ensemble Intercontemporain in Lucerne Concert Hall at the Lucerne Festival and in Salle de la Bourse, Strasbourg at Musica Festival International.

Susanne Elmark has worked with conductors such as Gary Bertini, Sir Colin Davis, Marcello Viotti, Peter Schneider, Peter Schreier, Christian Thielemann, Paul McCreesh, Eliahu Inbal, Michael Schønwandt, Marek Janowsky and Adam Fischer, and she has made several CD recordings, for example Mozart’s Lucio Silla.

Her wide repertoire also include parts like Gilda (Rigoletto), Oscar (Ballo in Maschera), Fiakermilli (Arabella), Adina (L’Elisir d’Amore), Valencienne (The merry Widow) und The Wife (Schnittke’s Life with an Idiot), the last mentioned a part she received the Audience’s Prize for in Malmo Sweden 2006, for Best Appearance of the Season, Mozart’s Requiem and masses, Händel’s Messiah and oratories, Bach’s passions, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Pergolesis’ Stabat Mater, Haydn’s Die Schöpfung, parts Susanne Elmark has sung in The Philharmony of Saint Petersburg, Gewandhaus zu Leipzig, Suntary Hall in Tokyo, at Opera Ireland in Dublin, Swedish Malmö Opera and Olavshallen Trondheim, Norway. Her favourite role is Zerbinetta though, a part she has sung in 9 different productions worldwide, among them two seasons at Bayerische Staatsoper Munich.

Future engagements include Queen of the Night at Opéra National du Rhin, Strasbourg and Wiener Volksoper in 2012, the very challenging leading part Marie in Zimmermann’s Die Soldaten in 2013 and ‘14 at Opernhaus Zürich and Komische Oper Berlin, and concerts with Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Denmark and Grosses Orchester Graz.

2010 Susanne Elmark received the honourable Elisabeth Don’s Memorial Fund from The Royal Danish Opera.
